Couch to Triathlon Update
A moment of honesty...
As you may have previously read in a blog post or on Instagram, I've set a goal to complete my first triathlon this upcoming summer. I decided to give myself 6 months to learn how to swim, and improve my biking and running. But so far my training hasn't been impactful.
I can list you many excuses why I haven't trained as much as I should be, but it won't change a thing. Instead, I will forgive my past, take action today and plan for the future.
One thing I've noticed however, is that I've been consistent in running on Tuesdays and playing soccer on Wednesdays. But I know I can do better.
When Tuesday rolls around, I looking forward to my evening run since it's a great way to release any tension, clear my head and gain confidence. It also challenges my committed since the last couple of weeks Vancouver has had a few showers and snow falls.
The only person holding YOU back is YOU. STOP HOLDING YOURSELF BACK. YOU ARE DESTINED FOR GREAT THINGS.
The first couple of running sessions I've had, I ran without music which made me focus on the distance, my limiting beliefs and the struggles. Music, along with my hesitation of pushing myself, has negatively impacted the distance I cover (of lack of), which is why I decided to incorporate music into my training.
Music distracts people from fatigue, elevates mood, increases endurance, and reduces perceived effort. When listening to music, people run farther, bike longer and swim faster than usual—often without realizing it. And I can attest to that. Yesterday, I had one of my best runs. I ran a little further, I ran a little faster and I ran with confidence. I loved every minute of it, even when it became challenging.
If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change.
As I reflect on my training, there is one thing that has been on top of mind. Nutrition. Nutrition is a key component to training. Proper nourishment before a workout will give you the energy to complete your exercise and post meals will help replenish energy stores and repair muscle tissue. As I'm continuously learning about the type of foods that have a positive impact on fitness, I invite you to follow my journey on Instagram and check soon for my insight on fitness nutrition.
Are you training for anything in particular? If so, would love to know how your training is going and any questions regarding fitness nutrition.
