Did you know cucumber is the most hydrating fruit? It was a high water content (96% water), which is cleaning and hydrating. With it's mild flavour, it makes for a perfect add-on to your green smoothies. It's also very cooling which is why they are great in the summer.
Did you know cucumber is a fruit?
"For instance, would you believe that beans, corn, bell peppers, peas, eggplant, pumpkins, cucumbers, squash and tomatoes are all fruits? That’s because, botanically speaking, fruits are the part of flowering plants that contain the seeds and are the means by which such plants disseminate those seeds.
So even nuts are fruits. Grains, which are really just oversized seeds, are also fruits.
So what about vegetables? Botanically speaking, vegetables are all the other parts of the plant, including the leaves (e.g. lettuce and spinach), roots (e.g. carrots and radishes), stems (e.g. ginger and celery) and even the flower buds (e.g. broccoli and cauliflower).
To sum it up – if it is from a plant and has seeds (or would have seeds if it wasn’t genetically engineered or cultivated to not have them, as with things like seedless grapes), it is a fruit; if it doesn’t, it is a vegetable." (Terynn Boulton, The differenced between fruits and vegetables)
This weekend, I finally cracked open Juice Blend Taste by The Juicery. There are tons of delicious and nutritious recipes. Considering it's cucumber season in Ontario, I decided to make the Antiaging Smoothie from James Duigan, founder Bodyism.
The following text is from Juice Blend Taste
Wake up with the spicy heat of ginger, which plays nicely off the cool cucumber and cream, rich avocado. The healthy fasts in avocado are anti-inflammatory and help moisturize and boost your skin from within.
- 6 inches cucumber
- 1/2 avocado
- 1 stalk celery
- Small squeeze fresh lemon juice
- Small handful of spinach
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- Filtered water as needed
Blend all the ingredients together, adding water as needed to achieve the desired consistency. Serve immediately.
