The lovely Lindsay from The Planted Palate interviewed me for her blog, which was recently posted. It's my first feature and it feels great to share with her readers my favourite spring dishes, spring allergy remedies and how I got started with my blog. I leave you with a snippet of the interview - read full interview. Can you tell us a little bit about Thrive With The Seasons? Thrive With The Seasons was born from my passion for nutrition, cooking, baking and photography. I want to make a positive change and empower, educate and inspire others to take action, fuel their body with good and achieve their goals. When you fuel your body with the right foods, thoughts and exercise, you will thrive to your full potential.
What are your favorite foods to eat during the spring? Foods that are in season. After a diet filled with soups, grains and beans, my body is wanting fresh fruits and vegetables – radishes, rhubarb, peppers, spinach and tomatoes. Some of my favourite dishes for spring are rainbow salads filled with various coloured vegetables. I’m also looking forward to dishes made with rhubarb – rhubarb pie anyone? One thing I’m looking forward to is baking with rhubarb. I would love to try and make my first pie/tart or compote.
Remedies to survive allergy season: My go to allergy remedy is an essential oil blend – lemon, lavender and peppermint. Like many other essential oils that I use for headaches, anxiety and upset stomach, it works wonders. I apply topically to back of neck or under the nose and on the bridge of the nose.
Tips and Tricks on how to “spring clean” your body and environment in time for spring: Drinks lots of water and drink 1 cup of lemon water first thing in the morning to help flush out toxins and boost the immune system. Go for a walk and fill your lungs with fresh air, eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables (preferably in season), and dry brush everyday to improve circulate and lymphatic drainage. Dry brushing also helps shed dead skins so your skin is smoother and brighter which helps your skin absorb more nutrients.
When it comes to spring cleaning your environment, add a few drops of lemon essential oil in your diffuser to help eliminate odours and refresh your environment. Buy a new plant for your place and create an inspiring environment.
