Week 1 of The Self-Care Challenge

It's been a hectic week and I finally have some time to get back into blogging and creating new recipes. Last week, before my hectic week began, I launched The Self-Care Challenge on Instagram to inspire you to take care of yourself during the busy days leading up to Christmas (and beyond), help you manage stress and feel energized. If you do not have Instagram, I've listed the first 7 self-care actions for the first week of the challenge below:

Day 1 - Drink lemon and water first thing in the morning.

Squeeze juice of 1/4 lemon with 2 cups of room temperature water. There are many benefits to this drink and when you feel good on the inside, imagine what you can accomplish! Drinking lemon and water gets your skin glowing, cleanses the body, helps prevent constipation, reduces heartburn and alkalinizes the body.

Day 2 - Meditate for 5-20 minutes.

Take 5, 10 or 20 minutes to sit quietly, breathe and focus on one thing: being present. Take a deep breathe for 5 counts, exhale for another 5. Repeat 10 times. Try to forget your to do list and stresses and focus on your breathing. Meditation brings calmness, joy, peace of mind and great energy. Meditation prevents stress from getting into your system, lowers high blood pressure, increases the energy level, reduces anxiety attacks, helps you gain clarity and improves emotional stability.

Day 3 - Sleep 7-9 hours.

Sleeping is so important, it increases creativity, improves memory, sharpens attention and lowers stress.

Day 4 - Enjoy a cup of tea.

Take a moment and enjoy a soothing tea, be it chamomile to relax or ginger to warm up. Enjoy every sip and focus on the lovely flavours. Close your eyes and feel the tea warm you up.

Day 5 - Eat breakfast.

The most important meal of the day is breakfast. You've been fasting all night and you want to break the fast with nutritious foods and high protein to help you get through the morning. Eat a solid breakfast 20 minutes after having your lemon and water.

Day 6 - Snack smart.

Make sure you snack smart throughout the day with whole foods and real food. If you are busy and can't make food, make sure you grab healthy alternatives.

Day 7 - Be grateful.

Start the day with a grateful heart. Upon waking each morning, think of 5 things you are grateful for at the moment. At the end of the day, fill your thoughts with thankfulness for the good and valuable blessings in your life. Gratitude is powerful because it makes you powerful! Gratitude puts you in a positive state of mind and attracts the good.

Next week, I will post the next 7 self-care actions. I recommend doing at least one self-care action a day (the more the better), in order for it to become a habit.

How are you feeling after week 1 of The Self-Care Challenge? I would love to know how you are feeling and what other self-care actions you practice throughout the day/week/month.
