What is the difference between living and existing?

Do you find yourself living a life or simply existing? Since the start of the year, I’ve been discovering my purpose and the meaning of my existence. For two years prior, I had a corporate job that I wasn’t to fond of and honestly believe it made a huge impact on the way I saw myself and my relationship with others. I feel like I was simply existing. Doing the right thing, working after graduating, getting my own place, working to pay the bills and have fun on the weekend. I truly believe I let it dim the light inside me a little bit. But ever since that routine has ended. I’ve been thinking more clearly and have a better understanding of what it really means to live. Living is about going beyond doing the “right” thing. It’s about taking risks, facing your fears, challenging yourself and competing against yesterday’s self. It’s also following your dreams. Sometimes you take a huge risk fighting for something you truly want and it the end the reward is much greater than the risk. You have nothing to lose.

Existing is simply doing what is “right”, playing it safe and not following your inner voice. Living is challenging yourself everyday in doing things you never thought you’d be able to do, finding your passion, getting out of your comfort zone and experiencing the beautiful things life is handing to you (heartbreak and all).
