Take a chance and do what you love

I’ve come across this video of Jim Carrey giving a moving commencement address to Maharishi University of Management’s class of 2014. Here are some highlights of his speech and my comments:

"Worrying about the path way in the future, but everything that will ever be is what’s happening here and decision we make that are based on love or fear" - I had a recent conversation with a friend of mine about finding a job that we are content with. He said that he will settle for a job that he likes (because finding a job that you love is near to impossible) and that pays well just to make a living, pay the bills and pay for things he wants to do outside of work. Of course, we all need a job that pays the bills but it shouldn’t be your primary focus. Find a job that you enjoy doing and actually look forward waking up to. Don’t think about the money. You obviously should get paid because your time is valuable but it shouldn’t be your main focus. Once we start doing what we love and stop focusing on what it brings physically (money), I think we will begin to understand the importance of choosing a career we love and starting to live life the way it’s meant to be lived. We will realize the endless possibilities in life and start living. Let’s never get to busy making a living, that we forget to live.

"Decisions are based on love or fear, most of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality" - We often choose the path more secure because we are to afraid to fail and want to play it safe. It might also be because we can’t visualize the path to our dreams and are to afraid to take a leap of faith. Taking the leap of faith is about doing all you can to fulfill your dream and the last 1% is taking a leap without seeing where you’ll land. You can’t always for see the path ahead, you just need to believe and let universe handle the rest. Believe that what comes ahead is given to you for a reason. You might take a leap and fall flat on your face. Yes it sucks, but you tried and gave it your all. Now it’s time to get back up and try again. Learn from your mistakes and failures. If you are to afraid to fail, you don’t deserve to succeed. How will you know you’ve succeeded if you don’t fail?

"What we want seems so out of reach that we don’t bother asking the universe for it. You can fail at what you don’t want. so you might as well take a chance and do what you love - Dream big and go for it! What do you have to lose? Absolutely nothing. In fact, you have so much to gain! So what if you failed at the one thing you truly wanted. Isn’t it better knowing that you tried and gave it your all than dreaming and never knowing what could have been. You always regret the things you don’t do. So go ahead, fail or succeed. You’ll be surprised as to what you are capable of. And who knows, maybe asking the universe for what you want will bring you to something you never thought you wanted.

What are your thoughts on Jim Carrey’s speech?
