This week, I received a package from Social Nature, a social product sampling community, with a sample of Mettrum Originals Hemp Seeds. As a member of this community, I get to try greener choices like organic deodorants, vegan mascara, healthy snacks and eco-friendly cleaners. Once I've tried the product for a few days or weeks, I share my opinion (good or bad) with my community via my blog or Instagram. The social community is a great way to try new natural products that I otherwise wouldn't have noticed in stores. I'm an advocate for fuelling your life with natural foods and products because the negative effects that toxic products or processed foods have on your body is simply not worth it. Now let's talk hemp seeds.
Hemp seeds have a nutty flavour and can be eaten raw, ground into a meal, sprouted, made into hemp milk and hemp juice, prepared as tea, and used in baking. Hemp seeds are rich in:
- omega 3
- omega 6
- plant-based protein
- vitamin E
- dietary fibre
Hemp seeds are rich in healthy fats and amino acids necessary for human health. They also help with digestion, heart and skin. The protein and fibre in hemp slow digestion, providing long-lasting energy and satiety. They are a great source of arginine, GLA and omega 3 which have been linked to a reduced risk of heart disease. 3:1 ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 may benefit skin diseases. In some cases, this may provide relief from dry skin and eczema by reducing inflammation and acting as an emollient when applied to skin.
Sprinkle Mettrum Originals Raw Shelled Hemp Seeds on just about anything, or eat them on their own for a quick and healthy snack! This morning I made a quick breakfast that involved toast, hummus topped with cucumber and a sprinkle of hemp seeds. Did you know? 2 tbsp of hemp seeds have 9 grams of protein!
